Shopping for engagement ring for my girlfriend, and prices are friggin ridiculous. Why does it seem so important that a ring be GIA certified, and what is the biggest difference from a diamond that is and a diamond that isn't?|||Marketing will have you believe that it makes a huge difference. It doesn't. Just know your 4 C's. Color, cut, clarity and carat. That's what really matters. When something is GIA certified, it just means that they have done the work for you and gave it their special rating. Do a little research, and save some money http://www.thediamondbuyingguide.com/|||GIA is recognized across the world as being the most accurate and unbiased opinion when it comes to grading diamonds
The advantages of buying a diamond with a GIA certificate are:
You will know exactly what you are buying. Every important factor you need to know about the diamond is described in the certificate.
The seller knows exactly what he/she is selling to you so as to avoid any misunderstandings in the future.
If a diamond comes with a GIA certificate, you do not have to worry about the possibility that you might be purchasing a fracture-filled diamond. These are diamonds that have surface cracks that can be artificially filled to appear as much better diamonds than they actually are. These are in essence, very low quality diamonds that look great to naked eyes. GIA does not certificate these diamonds.
If a diamond comes with a GIA certificate, you will not become a victim of buying a synthetic diamond. Yes, there are real man-made diamonds that hit the market in 1977. Currently, average jewelers have no way of telling if a diamond is natural or man-made (These are not diamond stimulants as CZs, but real diamonds that are man made).
Purchasing a GIA certified diamond will simply provide you with much more confidence and value
also, i think it might be important for insurance reasons, but im not sure|||Hi there,
The 4cs to the diamond are what determines its value..
If you buy a diamond without a certificate then you are not guaranteed its description and hence its value..
Many jewlers sell their uncertified diamonds as a range, like clarity H-F, and they sell it for instance 2000$ when you take it to be graded most likely you will get a grade lower than the range, altough there is a slight chance you can get a grade in the H range. So buying an already certified diamond is the best way to go.
Now the GIA part..GIA has the most strict standards for diamonds, meaning if you have an EGL diamond which is D in colour,If you take it to GIA they are most likely to certify it as E-F!They are very strict.Thats why if you compare 2 diamonds of the same colour with these certificate you will find a huge difference...
I hope this was helpful to you,if you need any thing you can contact me at my site, I can even help you getting a very discounted GIA diamonds :)
Goodluck|||GIA is the foremost authority in diamond certification. ofcourse it holds more value than anyone else in the business. BUt the other laboratories are not that bad. Ususally one land up paying little more for a GIA cert. I believe the good co like IGI, EGL etc are all equally good.
