If diamond has a gouge in the table near the prong and a deep scratch near that, will it break?

Just bought a beautiful champagne diamond ring and every stone has at least a scratch, but one stone in particular has a Y-shaped scratch with a gouge just touching it - and is just about touching one of the prongs holding it. To the naked eye the ring is gorgeous, but concerned that one diamond in particular will break, especially if accidently hit against something. I would appreciate feedback concerning the durability of the damaged diamond and overall value of the ring. Thanks!|||Depends on the overall clarity of the damaged stone. If it has a decent internal clarity, then you are in less danger of breaking the stone. That said, you should definitely be even more careful with this ring then you may others without the damage - don't wear it to bed, don't wear it while washing your hands, doing housework.. don't expose it to abrasive liquids or solids, no acids (like lemon juice), and I wouldn't recommend using a sonic cleaner on it either... essentially, just wear it when you're going out somewhere, and store it safely in a jewelry box when not on your finger.

As for the value... obviously, with the severity of the scratches, it's worth less then an undamaged ring - but without some other details, like color, actual clarity, carat weight, # of stones, etc, there is no way for anyone to give you even a ballpark $ value...|||"Do Diamonds Break" - http://www.seaofdiamonds.biz/d鈥?/a>
