Where can I find a decent diamond engagement ring for a good price?

I've been told to stay away from Retail Stores and maybe check out Pawn shops...but I'm afraid to get dup'd by one of them since I'm not going to be able to tell the difference between a diamond and a cubic zirconium. What to do?|||Online! The online stores have really small overhead costs so they don't overcharge you. My husband bought my engagement ring from Union Diamond, and when he got it appraised he found out that he only spent 75% of the estiamted value.

Blue Nile is highly regarded. My SIL's ring is from there and it's beautiful. I suggest you set a budget, educate yourself about diamonds, and then start shopping.

Also, as a point to the answer above mine: EGL certifications aren't considered good. GIA is the largest company around and is well-respected, and if you are getting a round diamond AGS certifications are great.|||thank you every for your answers! this really helps a clueless guy like me find something beautiful for my hopefully 'future' fiance. i wish i could give 'best answer' to more people but i cant, but i really do appreciate everythign everyone said. thank you sooo much for your answers!!

|||Most major cities have a diamond district or a downtown area where things are manufactured and can be purchased for cheaper. I live in Los Angeles and told my boyfriend to go to downtown to get my ring. He was able to get a great ring custom made that cost 1/5 of it's retail price. Also be sure to get a GIA or EGL certificate for your diamond (ask the jeweler for one. If he doesn't have one go elsewhere). That way you know it's not a fake.|||You should really look at bluenile.com - they have great deals, good diamonds, NO SALES tax and free shipping. They have premade rings and you can design your own if you don't like it. You may want to look at ebay and see if there are any bluenile rings you could purchase used. Here are some thoughts:

Arrange it by price and you'll see that there are some beautiful rings for less than $1000.|||If you have a riddle's around you, go there. I love there jewelry, but I would not recommend going to their website. They have way more choices in stores and they are very reasonable. Good luck.|||Kay Jeweler's has beautiful engagement rings, and wonderful sales and great deals on wedding sets also!!|||don't be afraid to shop online. Online retailers sometimes have the best prices. My friend just purchased a beautiful wedding band from http://www.jewelryninja.com|||we got mine a jared was not that much and they have credit
