Is diamond in diamond ring an adjective or is the whole thing a noun?

I think that "diamond ring" is a noun and there is no adjectives used but some people think diamond is describing the ring, please explain|||i am pretty sure that it is an adj. cuz what about a ruby ring or emerald ring? ruby and emerald are describing the ring.
