Older diamonds did not have laser markings. There are diamonds before the invention of the laser.

Without risk of cracking a diamond or scratching a fake, what methods are used to distinguish between a real and a fake diamond?|||-Place the stone over print and use it as a magnifying glass, if it is unmounted or loose. Diamonds refract so much light you should not see any characters of the print through the stone. Crystal and glass will clearly magnify the print.

-If you shine a small light on one side of the diamond and it does not show on the other side, but instead- shows a halo around the rim of the stone, it may be a diamond.

-Breathe on the surface of the stone and immediately check to see if it has fogged up. You should not be able to see any moisture on a diamond. Quartz, glass, and cubic zirconium will stay hazy for a moment before the condensation dissipates.|||eat it. if it doesn't break down in your stomach, its a real diamond. if it does, expect some diarrhea in the coming hours.
