What is the best way to use a 1/4 carat diamond in an engagement ring?

I have a good quality diamond passed through the family I would like to use in an engagement ring. Just not sure if that is too small to use as the main diamond and if there are any settings that would look good with that size diamond?|||Lucky you!

Take it to your local jeweler, and check out all the different styles of mounting available - or design your own!

As to the size... that's up to you... some people would say a quarter carat is too small, and some would love it. If you think it's too small as a solitaire, put it into a mounting where it;'s not the only stone.|||you could do a princess cut , because it sits up high on a pedastal and makes any size diamond look brilliant|||Were you live is a big factor in whether a diamond is to small or two big. With out knowing that, I'd say...

Try a halo setting..it makes any center stone look bigger...here is an example: (see links below)

Also you didn't mention the shape, but with the halo you can put a round stone in a round halo or a squarer halo and it'll look great either way. So if your lady likes squarer shapes, it's a great way to give her that and make use of your diamond. My last web address is a great example of that.
